Building for the future..

The original building plans we had in 2019 were very firmly put to bed by Covid; however, that awful time also gave us new perspective and led us to rethink what we wanted to achieve for the Home now, and in the future.

Happily, that project is now well underway and we anticipate it will take the rest of this year to complete all the phases.

We’re so very grateful to our team and to our visiting families and professionals for their understanding during the inevitable clatter and disruption; everyone is excited about the changes which represent not only the desire to improve our old building and the daily experiences of people living and working in it, but also a clear line between then and now. While we all remain vigilant, life is almost as it was and that alone is to be celebrated.

Among the 9 project phases are the following :

Brand new laundry, split into regular and contaminated areas, with separate access, equipment and fully equipped with all required PPE etc.

Two new staffrooms; the first for general use, with kitchen, sitting area, showers, changing rooms and lockers. The second will be equipped for, and only used by, staff who providing care to residents in isolation for any reason. They will have separate showers and storage, their own rest space. As any staff involved in isolation care wear scrubs instead of their own clothes, all items can be laundered here in the separate facility described previously.

We have acquired the bungalow opposite the Home and with consent to convert to office use, will move our admin/business team across there, freeing up space within the main building, as well as providing much needed additional parking.

In addition to this work, the areas of the Home unaffected by building work are undergoing complete renovation; one of the big changes made to our original plans was to remove all flooring and replace with Altro products. A variation of this product is also being used to clad all bathrooms, and to clad the bottom half of all walls in all areas.

So, apart from looking lovely, it will provide a safer environment in terms of infection prevention and control.

I will update again when the next round of work is underway!
